The United Way of Abilene and the Community Foundation of Abilene are proud to join forces in a unified effort to serve those in our community who have been directly impacted by the tornado that hit Abilene May 18, 2019.
We have delegated roles to maximize impact. The Community Foundation of Abilene has taken the lead in securing and administering funds via the Abilene Disaster Relief Fund. The United Way of Abilene has taken the lead in coordinating relief efforts in the field.
Both organizations are working in coordination with the Big Country Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) to help determine where funds and assistance are needed. VOAD is a network of leaders from all organizations involved in disaster relief for the purpose of coordinating relief efforts.
The Abilene Disaster Relief Fund will support nonprofit and community organizations engaged in the relief, recovery, and rebuilding of Abilene neighborhoods damaged on May 18, 2019. The fund will provide assistance through immediate relief efforts, short-term recovery, and long-gterm rebuilding.
